Summary:
(Taken from Amazon)

Lost in a world full of monstrous fairies, a troubled sixteen year old has to find out who she is and why her memories were stolen before she is found by those who want her dead.

She takes the name "Memory" and knows she has just one goal - to find her way home, wherever that is. But this land is strange. No technology to be seen, and iron is banned, thanks to a pact the humans have with the magical creatures who share their pre-industrial era world. In her t-shirt and torn jeans, Memory knows she's different, even before she performs impossible magic.

Haunted by her past, chased by a dragon, wanted by the king and stalked by the strange, handsome savage that seems to know her, everyone is after Memory, and she suspects it's not just for her eye-catching outfit. Her forgotten past holds dangerous secrets that will challenge everything she believes and risk the lives of everyone she loves.

Mandy's Review:

Summary sounds a little like all of the other fantasy books, right? Do not let that fool you. I, too, made that mistake. Memory's Wake is a unique story. It mixes the present day with a pre-industrial era where kings and queens rule. Memory's past is really the future ... or is it?

This first book in the Memory's Wake Trilogy is a twisting-turning adventure into a world you want to get lost in. The king and queen have been killed and an evil man has taken over the kingdom. All of the former nobles are now in hiding and continuously on the run. Some believe the heir of the former king and queen still live. If they could just find her and get her back on the throne, all will return back to the way it needs to be.

Memory is brought into this pre-industrial era through a "door" created by a girl escaping from the evil men who wish her dead. They join together to find the girl's caretaker and a way to help him escape. During their wanderings they come across a thief. He recognizes the former king and queen's heir and takes them both to his parents, former nobles of the court. And don't think you can figure out who the heir is from this review, because if you think that then, 9 times out of 10,  you're going to be wrong. What then ensues is a journey that the three of them venture on in order to de-throne the evil "king" and to reinstate the true heir of the kingdom.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book and am curious to read the rest of the trilogy to see how it plays out. If you're a fan of action-adventure and some fantasy, then I think you would enjoy this book as well.
